    Skies Launch

Cayman Airways Skies in-flight magazine was officially launched on October 13. Massive Media handle all the sales activities for this new publication, and, together with Herald Custom Publishing / Aboard, we held a small reception for airline executives, advertisers, writers, and other related parties. It was a lovely evening event held at the A-Frame waving gallery of the airport, a unique if somewhat noisy at times location...with power issues.

The reception was an opportunity to say 'thank you' to our advertisers and a small token of our appreciation of their confidence in the publication.

We were honoured to have in attendance the Leader of Government Business and Premier Designate the Hon. Mr McKeeva Bush (who is also the Minister responsible for CAL), as well as the Hon Juliana O'Connor-Connoly and the Hon Mike Adam. Jude Scott, Chairman of the Board of CAL, and Fabian Whorms, Acting CEO of CAL were also there with Fabian making a few remarks on behalf of CAL. The President of Herald Custom Publishing / Aboard, Garry Duell, Publisher of Cayman Airways SKies also spoke at the reception.

    Chamber of Commerce Business Expo

Massive was awarded the contract to install the pipe and drape, power distribution, and other show services for the Annual Chamber of Commerce Business Expo at the Family Life Center. The event drew a huge crowd on its opening on Thursday evening, and the subsequent days thru Saturday. The event is always a great showcase of local business offerings and an opportunity to reconnect with associates. A job well done by Joanne Berry of Chamber, and Isabel Quiros and the Massive Crew.

One of the new items we did for this venue and event were four strings of three high intensity florescent fixtures to augment the rather dim hall lights. This solution was a quick and very cost effective (as well as highly effective - read bright) solution to the problem. The neat thing about these very bright lights is that the strings can be as long as you need them and they plug into regular 110v house power.

    Staff Party, always fun...

Last week we had another of our monthly staff parties. We normally have these in a relatively low key manner to celebrate birthdays that month, get together, and generally relax for a bit. This month our social committee, listening to feedback from staff, said, "David, we should have the Dangerous and Terry do some DJing, and have Shabba cook some fish tea." Thats exactly what they said. They did not say they would have a big cake for my birthday, but they did that too....

    Customer appreciation day at Massive....

....it was a beautiful day in Grand Cayman and from 7 - 10 am we gave donuts and coffee, our way of saying "thanks" to our morning customers.

From noon to a bit after 2 pm D'Docta from Hot 104 radio did a live remote from our parking lot with Chef David preparing a grill full of hot dogs for lunch. This was just a small token of appreciation for our customers who have supported our growth over the past 10 years and allowed us to be successful in so many aspects of our business.

At 2:30 we did the drawing for an iPod Shuffle which was won by Ricardo Gordon. At the end of the day the we had the final drawing for an iPod Touch which was won by George Jefferson. Congratulations to them both from the Massive Crew!

Thanks everyone for stopping by and allowing us to say "thanks"!

    Massive's annual summer staff party....

... another year has past, time for us all to get together in a casual setting to chill for a day. The summer party has become a bit of a tradition, held for the past three years at Royal Palms beach, with loads of jet ski's and beach toys available for all to use. Of course there is the requisite domino table, and this year Dara added charades. The plans for tug-o-war and the obstacle relay were shelved due to the overwhelming interest in competitive dominos. This year, beautiful blue sky, nice calm waters....

    Massive Flag.jpg

The day was also a chance to say goodbye to Kevin Swabey (seen below with his son) from our Portable Toilet division who has been 'rolled over' after 7 years with us and is heading back to Jamaica. Thanks Kevin for all your hard work for Massive over the years.

    Kevin and Crew.jpg

The staff of Massive are awesome, and this fun day is a great way to say 'thanks' for all that they do for us.

    Helpful Small Business info....

... because I don't have enough to do in my life, I also serve on the Chamber of Commerce council, presently as a second year councillor and as co-chair of the Small Business Advisory Sub-Committee the Cayman Chamber. We recently partnered with KPMG to host a business assistance seminar. Almost 100 business owners and managers attended the free business assistance workshop entitled “Succeeding in Turbulent Times” aimed at providing small business owners some advice on remaining competitive in today’s difficult financial climate.

Mr. Simon Whicker, Partner, KPMG Restructuring Division, and Mr. Alex Lawson, Manager, KPMG Restructuring Division, led the audience through the presentation, addressing ways businesses can preserve cash and cut costs, and identifying potential risks and opportunities for these businesses.

If your organisation was unable to attend, the presentation “Succeeding in Turbulent Times: Business Assistance Seminar” is available for download by clicking this link then click the download at the end of the original Chamber story. "CHAMBER / KPMG downloadable presentation"

Business, and especially small business is always a challenge, but we live in an age where much information is available at your fingertips, as are the computer applications to bring those resources to bear in your own business.

    Island Living Show....

...Massive was a major sponsor of the Cayman 27 Island Living show held at the new recreation and arts center at Cayman International School at Camana Bay. The show was very well attended, with over 4,000 persons passing thru the doors.

We brought in some new products for our inventory to host this event, including a good assortment of pipe and drape to create booths and backdrops. Check with our rental agents for colour options, and many are available as standard. Don't limit your thinking to just booth spaces with pipe and drape. It makes a great backdrop for stages to set off a head table or speaker for photographs and as standard is available in white, red, green, blue, and black. It is also great for hiding not so good looking wall surfaces. We've got pipe for 3', 8', and 12' high drape, and adjustable legs also for custom height applications.

We also did the main stage setup as a casual outdoor lounge. This was used as the set for the Cayman 27 Daybreak news broadcasts as could be seen in the link here from the show http://tinyurl.com/l6e5vs. Many at the show asked us if our lounge furniture was for sale. If you are interested in buying similar pieces please call or e-mail us and we will be happy to assist.

    A different twist on renting....bling...

...ok, so you know Massive rents just about everything. Well, David Kirkaldy and Davina Dennis from Massive's party and event rental division have been attending the engage09 luxury destination wedding symposium today, and on into tomorrow.

I was so fortunate to have had dinner at Abacus, with such warm hospitality by Markus and Neil. The 'featured guest' on our table of 10 was Carley Roney, the founder of The Knot, The Bump, and The Nest, and a host of other 'lifestage' media. For a serial entrepreneur and company starter like me, it was great to be able to chat with her about why she started the publication in the first place. Hint...when you don't have a job, you get creative.

At dinner I chatted with Amy Chernoff of Adorn Brides, a company that rents bridal jewelry. Now thats a great idea! Visit their site and learn more about this innovative company. Also had a good time chatting with Lindsey Maurath of Fresh Lime and Karen Tran of Karen Tran Florals, and Kathy Jackson of Atwater Consulting.

Oh, almost forgot, sipped some lovely old rum after a great dinner, and found more of the same in the Camana Bay gift bag when I left....thanks Nikki and Molly!

    Outback Legends Tennis...

...was a great success.  Massive worked with Orion, the developers of the beautiful Ritz Carlton property in Grand Cayman, and the event production team at InsideOut, to create a world class event at the Ritz Carlton Tennis Center.  We had an earlier post with setup photos, but most games were played in the evening and the setting was truly spectacular.  We installed the first raised platform tent ever seen in Cayman, and added solid glass wall and a/c to create a spectacular VIP lounge overlooking the court.
    .
Massive can handle any event, from small parties, to large scale corporate functions.   Just ask!

    ARA visit Massive....

... we had the pleasure of hosting a a group from the American Rental Association today at our offices.  Phillip Kelling (President ARA Insurance Services), Tom Fouts (past president ARA, owner of Bledsoe Rentals www.bledsoerentals.com) and Chris Wehrman (CEO - ARA) were here in Cayman for a board meeting of the ARA Insurance Cayman captive insurance company.  It was great touring them around and for them to see the changes since their last visit to our business seven years ago.

    Glass sidewall...

    ... another 'first' by Massive!

We've just done an awesome install of 80' of solid glass sidewall for the main VIP tent for the Outback Legends Tennis at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman. This is the first time this type of product has been used in Cayman and I think you can see from the photos that it really makes the whole setup look that much more impressive. Massive did all the tents, a/c, electrical, lighting, and tables and chairs for this function...a full post on the tournament will follow.
The glass sidewalls are perfect for a high end wedding being held at one of the beautiful locations here in Grand Cayman. Obviously, the big impact is that when inside the tent you have a great feeling of space, and the ability to clearly see the location that you are having the function at, be it the beach, Pedro, the Botanic Park or some other spot.

The walls are also great when used for sporting events like this tennis event, football, golf, rugby, or any other sporting event that has VIP level tickets sold. The setup really gives your event a great look. Another use is corporate events or product launches, again, where high quality and innovative design is key to your launch or event success.

Call our agents on 949-7990 to learn more about our rental pricing on the new glass sidewall, the solid commercial glass doors, and air conditioning for tents.

    Awesome new tennis court....

....our Fence Division recently completed the fence on the tennis court at Sunrise Phase 3 on Old Prospect Road. The court surface was completed by Bret Barrell and his team at A-Line Striping...they do such a great job (they also did the courts at Cayman International School at Camana Bay). Massive has been a leader in commercial and residential chain link and vinyl fence installation in Cayman since 2005. Contact us on info@massivegroup.com for a free quote for any fencing needs.

    Canvas palms ...

....we have a great selection of palms in a cool canvas material, either accurately coloured, or as shown below, in a 'natural' muted white canvas finish. They make for interesting decor items, particularly the natural ones as with a bit of uplighting they can take on the colour palatte of the room or event space. Massive has them in several sizes and palm styles from 6' to 11' tall. This event pictured was on the private upstairs patio at Casanova By The Sea Restaurant www.casanova.ky; its has an appealing space for a dinner function with indoor rain backup.
